US - AFN formerly known as Advantage Freight Network, providers of freight brokerage, third party logistics, and transportation management services is the latest company to join the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) becoming the first such supply chain provider to do so and emphasising the NICB’s avowed intent to concentrate more on cargo theft and commercial operations. Previously most NICB investigations have involved private vehicle fraud and theft rather than truck and shipping related crimes.
"As co-chair of the National Cargo Theft Task Force, I have seen AFN's efforts to obtain legislation and increase awareness about cargo theft and its impact on consumers and the economy," said Joe Wehrle, NICB's president and chief executive officer. "AFN's decision to join NICB reinforces the benefits NICB provides to a growing and diverse group of companies and industries that have a vested interest in fighting insurance fraud. AFN is to be commended for taking the lead and setting an example for many more companies concerned with cargo theft to join us in this fight."
The NICB, headquarterd in Des Plaines, Illinois, is the nation's leading not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to preventing, detecting and defeating insurance fraud and vehicle theft through information analysis, investigations, training, legislative advocacy and public awareness. The NICB is supported by nearly 1,100 property and casualty insurance companies and self-insured organizations. NICB member companies wrote over $319 billion in insurance premiums in 2009, or more than 78 percent of the nation's property/casualty insurance.
"There are few organizations out there that are as passionate about preventing cargo theft and are equally as capable as the NICB," stated Jared Palmer, AFN's General Counsel and in-house cargo theft prevention expert. "Being the first transportation/logistics company to join the NICB is just another testament to our ability to provide value to our clients and to take proactive measures to protect our customers' freight."
