Costs of Freight Broker VS Freight Broker Agent

As a Personal Freight Broker Trainer, many times I have been asked the difference in Start Up costs between a Freight Broker and a Freight Broker Agent. It is not uncommon for a starting brokerage firm to invest Thousands of $$$$ if the are to truly be successful. Where as being an agent, the investment is very minimal. For the cost of a couple phone lines, a fax machine, a good long distance co. and a good computer system, the agent is ready to go.

Below is a rough idea for operating a Brokerage AFTER the FMCSA Bond

Rent: $0–$1,000
Equipment: $6,000–$22,000
Licenses/tax deposits: $200–$400
Advertising/marketing: $500–$1,500
Utilities/phone: $100–$300
Professional services: $200–$750
Payroll: $0–$5,000
Supplies: $300–$500
Insurance (first quarter): $700–$1,400
Suggested monthly operating capital: $5,000–$250,000 (cash or line of credit)

At A1 we can show you how to get your Brokerage up and running for LESS, or how you can get started as a Freight Broker Agent within 5 Days
